I couldn't get it to recognize an audio pulse at all, and when using Silent Way to send out a clock, the SQ-1 hiccups for about 2-3 beats and will finally lock on by the beginning of the second bar in the song. I had sync troubles though using an audio pulse, or even a clock pulse out from Silent Way. IIRC, the Volca's send twice the pulses per beat that a 'normal' clock signal does, which is just one pulse per beat. You can adjust the pulses on the SQ-1 itself (I think), but yeah by default, the Volca sync stuff is weird. Even if it does work, I think you'll find that the sync pulses don't start the SQ-1 sequencer, and you'll have to punch-in manually on a downbeat. I'm not sure if this will work with the SQ-1 but it's worth a shot since you already have it. I think you'll have to send those pulses at twice the BPM of your track, because the "Korg Sync" is 2PPQn by default. You could record a Software Instrument track in GB, open the MIDI Editor pane Piano Roll Editor at the bottom, and display MIDI controllers via the little controller icon - set it to display Sustain (Controller 64) and see if there are Sustain On messages 127 in there without any corresponding Sustain Off messages 0. If your audio interface has extra outputs beyond the main out stereo pair, use one of them to send that pulse sample into the "sync in" of the SQ-1. Find or record yourself a 5V DC trigger pulse. Something like an Arturia Beatstep Pro or Keystep, or Doepfer Dark Time would be better at syncing to MIDI.Īnother idea: you could try making your own click track. I enjoy mine very much, but it works best as master clock. Chain effects on your favourite synth, run the output of apps or Audio Units into an app like GarageBand or Loopy, or select a different audio interface output for each app. When you use Live Loops, MIDI clock is only sent when recording or playing back a Live Loops performance. What is Audiobus Audiobus is an award-winning music app for iPhone and iPad which lets you use your other music apps together. Open the song settings, then tap Advanced. Garage Band, Not supported, Not supported, Not supported. You can use MIDI clock to sync other music apps or MIDI devices to the tempo used in GarageBand when playing or recording. Go to Preferences > Audio/MIDI in GarageBand and select MPK. Owen wrote:The SQ-1 is great "bang for the buck" but it definitely also has some annoying limitations. If you want to sync to Ableton, you can alternatively also not use MIDI, and instead sync via. Go to Preferences > MIDI/Sync in MPC Beats and select MPK mini.
